As part of Sustainability Week at Al-Mustaqbal University, the Department of Chemical Engineering and Petroleum Industries organized a distinguished scientific activity featuring an engineering model of distillation columns in petroleum facilities, illustrating the operation of separation and refining units within industrial refineries.
The model aims to demonstrate the working principle of distillation columns in separating crude oil components based on differences in boiling points, as well as highlighting their vital role in producing various petroleum derivatives such as gasoline, kerosene, and diesel.
The activity also sheds light on the engineering aspects related to improving operational efficiency, reducing energy consumption, and minimizing harmful emissions, in line with environmental sustainability concepts and the Sustainable Development Goals.
The organizers emphasized that this work is part of the department’s efforts to enhance students’ practical skills, connect theoretical knowledge with real industrial applications, and prepare competent engineers capable of designing and operating modern industrial units that meet environmental standards.
