As part of efforts to enhance laboratory performance and strengthen practical skills, the Unit Operations Laboratories in the Department of Chemical Engineering and Petroleum Industries hosted, on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, a specialized training program on the Plate and Frame Filter. The session was delivered by Dr. Abbas Khalil using an intensive hands-on approach. The training was distinguished by an in-depth exploration of pressure filtration mechanisms, including a detailed analysis of plate and frame efficiency, methods to reduce buildup, and ways to improve filtrate quality. The program was far from conventional; it adopted a “guided trial-and-error” approach, allowing trainees to operate the equipment themselves, identify operational errors, and correct them in real time. A notable aspect of this program was the integration of sustainability concepts into the training, with a focus on reducing water consumption and reusing the resulting solid materials, aligning with sustainable development goals—particularly those related to responsible resource management.
