The Media Department at the College of Arts and Humanities, Al-Mustaqbal University, held a specialized workshop titled "Food Security: From Literary Concept to Developmental Goal" on Monday, April 13, 2026. The workshop addressed the themes of "Hunger in Literature and Policy" as part of academic efforts to raise awareness of the second Sustainable Development Goal (SDG 2): Zero Hunger. The workshop was presented by Assistant Professor Dr. Hamza Abais Abd Al-Sada, Lecturer Dr. Mundhir Ali Ahmed, and Lecturer Dr. Mohammed Fayadh, who offered multidisciplinary insights combining developmental and critical analysis. The lecturers discussed ways to translate food security principles into influential media policies, reviewing the evolution of the concept of hunger in Arabic and international literature, and how it transformed from a biological phenomenon into a tool for social and political critique in major literary works. The session witnessed interactive discussions between academics and students, focusing on the role of media in highlighting food poverty issues and promoting a culture of sustainable consumption to reduce waste. Participants concluded with significant recommendations, emphasizing the need to integrate food security issues into the Media Department's curricula, organize joint awareness campaigns with civil society organizations, and conduct field research studying the relationship between local media and consumer behavior. The event concluded with a commitment from the department to continue organizing similar workshops covering all Sustainable Development Goals, reinforcing the university's educational role regarding major global issues.
