Al-Mustaqbal University examined the potential implications of Iraqi dinar devaluation for the national economy and citizens’ living conditions, highlighting the importance of addressing economic issues that affect society and drawing on academic expertise to analyse financial and monetary challenges. The discussions took place during a scientific event organised by the University’s College of Administrative Sciences on Tuesday, 20 October 2026, under the patronage of the University President, Professor Dr Hassan Shakir Majdi, and under the supervision of the College Dean, Professor Dr Haider Ali Al-Dulaimi. The event brought together economists and academics, researchers from Iraqi universities, and community representatives from Babil Governorate. The discussions addressed the potential effects of changes in the value of the national currency on purchasing power and living standards, as well as their implications for fiscal and monetary policies. Participants also examined the influence of international monetary developments and movements in the US dollar on domestic financial stability, considering Iraq’s substantial dependence on oil revenues. The discussions highlighted the importance of assessing exchange-rate policies from an integrated economic and social perspective, balancing economic objectives with their effects on living standards, considering the needs of groups most vulnerable to economic changes, and relying on scientific research when evaluating policy alternatives. The event reflects Al-Mustaqbal University’s commitment to fostering academic dialogue on national issues and drawing on scientific and research expertise to analyse economic challenges, promote economic knowledge and strengthen the University’s contribution to society.
