Abstract (EN): Exercise induces transcriptional changes in skeletal muscle that underpin metabolic and structural adaptation, and part of this response is mediated by chemical modification of chromatin. This review outlines the chemistry of CpG methylation and histone modification, including writer and eraser enzymes and their metabolic cofactors, then summarizes their responses to acute and chronic exercise and the evidence for epigenetic muscle memory. Promoter hypomethylation of oxidative-metabolism genes and histone acetylation are among the best-supported mechanisms, yet causality remains unresolved and heterogeneity across studies limits comparison. Keywords: epigenetics; DNA methylation; histone modification; exercise; skeletal muscle.
