Professor Dr. Hassan Shaker Magdy, President of Al-Mustaqbal University, participated in the IAU-EAIE Internationalisation Leadership Dialogue, held on 8 September 2026 at The Sir Jim McDonald Technology and Innovation Centre, University of Strathclyde, in Glasgow, United Kingdom. The dialogue addressed strategies for internationalisation and higher education in light of current global challenges, providing an important platform for exchanging experiences among presidents and higher education leaders from universities and institutions around the world. Professor Dr. Hassan Shaker Magdy’s participation came following a high-level invitation from the International Association of Universities (IAU) and the European Association for International Education (EAIE), with the aim of strengthening opportunities for international academic cooperation and facilitating the exchange of strategic expertise among higher education leaders worldwide. The event commenced with welcoming remarks from the host university, followed by addresses from Dr. Hilligje van’t Land, Secretary General of the International Association of Universities (IAU), and Mr. Mervyn Baker, Executive Director of the European Association for International Education (EAIE). The keynote session, entitled “Leading Internationalisation in Turbulent Times,” was delivered by Sir Anton Muscatelli, President of the Royal Society of Edinburgh. He presented advanced strategic perspectives, including the VUCA Prime leadership model, which focuses on managing higher education institutions in volatile and uncertain environments through Vision, Understanding, Clarity, and Agility. The session also highlighted successful models and strategies for building equitable and sustainable partnerships between universities, in addition to analysing internationalisation markets and reviewing recent data and statistics on global trends in international student mobility and recruitment. During his participation, Professor Dr. Hassan Shaker Magdy took part in dialogue sessions and roundtable discussions addressing the future of international partnerships, including mechanisms for selecting partners, joint academic programmes, research collaboration, and strengthening the principle of reciprocity. The discussions also explored new approaches to internationalisation, including internationalisation within curricula, the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in learning and academic mobility, and virtual exchange as modern and sustainable solutions for international higher education. The President of Al-Mustaqbal University also held several bilateral meetings with participating academic leaders. Among these was a meeting with Dr. Hilligje van’t Land, Secretary General of the International Association of Universities (IAU), during which she was presented with a commemorative gift representing Iraq’s rich heritage and civilisation. The meeting also explored prospects for future academic and research partnerships. These meetings provided an opportunity to discuss avenues for developing international academic cooperation and expanding institutional partnerships with leading universities and higher education organisations around the world. Professor Dr. Hassan Shaker Magdy’s participation reflects Al-Mustaqbal University’s continued commitment to developing its strategic plans, keeping pace with global developments in higher education leadership and management, and expanding its international network of academic and research partnerships.
