Professor Dr. Fakhriya Jabr Muhaibes, a faculty member at the College of Nursing, Al-Mustaqbal University, chaired the committee for the discussion of the Master’s thesis submitted by Ghofran Hakim Abees at the College of Nursing, University of Babylon, entitled: “The Effect of Hysterectomy on Women’s Quality of Life” The thesis aimed to assess the quality of life of women who had undergone hysterectomy and to identify statistically significant differences in quality of life according to the participants’ sociodemographic characteristics, reproductive history, and medical history. The study adopted a descriptive cross-sectional design and included a sample of 160 women who had undergone hysterectomy. The findings showed that the highest proportion of participants were aged 50–59 years (36.3%), with a mean age of 53.01 years. Abnormal uterine bleeding was the most common indication for hysterectomy, accounting for 45.6% of cases. The results also demonstrated that educational level was a significant factor influencing quality of life. Statistically significant differences were also associated with reproductive history, particularly short intervals between pregnancies. In addition, certain health conditions and long-term complications, including osteoporosis, heart disease, and urinary incontinence, were associated with a notable reduction in quality of life. The study further revealed that the largest proportion of participants had a moderate quality of life (38.1%), while 35.6% reported a low quality of life and 26.3% reported a good quality of life, with an overall mean score of 46.63 ± 24.07. The study recommended developing specialized health and nursing programs aimed at improving quality of life and strengthening coping skills among women following hysterectomy. It also emphasized the importance of providing health education for women and their husbands regarding the nature of the procedure, possible complications, post-operative expectations, and potential physical, sexual, and psychological aspects. Furthermore, the study recommended strengthening health follow-up programs and promoting healthy lifestyles, with particular attention to monitoring cardiovascular health, preventing osteoporosis, and strengthening the pelvic floor muscles. These measures would contribute to improving women’s overall health and quality of life following hysterectomy. The participation of Professor Dr. Fakhriya Jabr Muhaibes as Chair of the discussion committee reflects the distinguished academic presence of the faculty members of the College of Nursing at Al-Mustaqbal University and contributes to strengthening scientific collaboration and the exchange of academic expertise among Iraqi higher education institutions.
