Professor Dr. Qahtan Hadi Hussein, Dean of the College of Nursing at Al-Mustaqbal University, chaired the PhD dissertation defense committee for the dissertation submitted by doctoral student Hatem Karim Mansour, entitled: “The Effect of a Relapse Prevention Training Program on Nurses’ Knowledge Regarding Patients with Addiction After Treatment.” The dissertation aimed to investigate the effect of a specialized relapse prevention training program on the level of knowledge among nurses working with patients with addiction after completing treatment. This is particularly important given the essential role of nurses in supporting patients throughout the recovery phase, providing health education, monitoring early warning signs of relapse, and promoting effective coping strategies. The study adopted a quantitative quasi-experimental design and included a sample of 50 nurses, comprising 25 participants in the experimental group and 25 in the control group. Data were collected and statistically analyzed using IBM SPSS Statistics, Version 26. The findings demonstrated a statistically significant improvement in the level of knowledge among participants in the experimental group following implementation of the training program compared with the control group. The participating nurses showed increased levels of knowledge, confirming the importance of specialized training programs in relapse prevention and their role in enhancing the quality of care provided to patients after treatment. The study recommended that training programs should incorporate practical and clinical components that help bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application. It also emphasized the importance of the Ministry of Health and healthcare institutions’ administrations developing national guidelines and policies for relapse prevention training for nurses working in the care of patients with substance use disorders. This dissertation defense comes within the framework of supporting scientific research, developing specialized nursing practices, and strengthening the role of academic institutions in addressing health and societal challenges, particularly in the fields of addiction treatment and relapse prevention. At the conclusion of the defense, the committee commended the scientific effort invested in preparing the dissertation and the importance of the health and nursing topic it addressed. The committee also wished doctoral student Hatem Karim Mansour continued success and achievement in his scientific and academic career.
