Al-Mustaqbal University has achieved a remarkable academic milestone by ranking first among all Iraqi public and private universities in the Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings 2026. The university was placed within the 201–300 global band out of 1,603 participating universities worldwide, in a clear affirmation of its pioneering role and distinguished contributions to advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The university also secured first place in Iraq among 43 Iraqi universities included in this year’s ranking, reflecting its success in translating the principles of sustainability into effective institutional practices and impactful community initiatives.
At the level of the Sustainable Development Goals, Al-Mustaqbal University ranked first in Iraq in the following SDGs:
SDG 1: No Poverty, led by the College of Administrative Sciences through its academic and community initiatives that support economic development and social empowerment.
SDG 7: Affordable and Clean Energy
SDG 13: Climate Action
SDG 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions
The university also ranked second in Iraq in SDG 4: Quality Education, reflecting the strength of its academic programs and educational initiatives aimed at preparing future leaders capable of contributing to sustainable development.
This accomplishment adds to the university's distinguished record of excellence, as it has maintained its position as the top Iraqi university in the THE Impact Rankings for the second consecutive year and the best private university in Iraq for the fourth consecutive year.
The THE Impact Rankings evaluate universities based on their contributions to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals through a broad range of indicators, including quality of education; sustainability-related research; knowledge transfer; community service; governance; inclusion; environmental sustainability; efficient use of resources; climate initiatives; partnerships; and societal impact.
On this occasion, Prof. Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdi, president of the university, expressed his pride in this achievement, affirming that the results reflect the university's strategic vision and its firm commitment to the principles of sustainability and institutional excellence.
He noted that leading Iraqi universities and attaining an advanced global position in this prestigious ranking confirm the university's success in aligning its activities and programs with the Sustainable Development Goals and in strengthening its role as a pioneering academic institution contributing to the building of a more sustainable and prosperous future.
The university president also praised the significant efforts made by faculty members, researchers, staff, and students, extending his congratulations to them on this national achievement. He reaffirmed the university's continued commitment to advancing its international standing and enhancing its contribution to sustainable development at both the national and global levels.
