Prominent Academic Participation by the Director of Al-Mustaqbal Energy Research Center at Al-Mustaqbal University in a PhD Dissertation Defense at Tikrit University
In line with enhancing scientific collaboration and academic integration between Al-Mustaqbal University and Iraqi universities, Prof. Dr. Salwan Obaid Waheed, Director of the Al-Mustaqbal Energy Research Center, served as a distinguished member of the examination committee for a PhD dissertation defense presented by the student Aseel Nazim Fathi at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, College of Engineering – Tikrit University. The defense session was graced by high-level academic leaders, including the Dean of the College of Engineering at Tikrit University, Asst. Prof. Dr. Saad Ramadan Ahmed, the Head of the Mechanical Engineering Department, Prof. Dr. Raid Rashad, and the Head of the Chemical Engineering Department, Asst. Prof. Dr. Maha Nizar Ismail. The dissertation, titled "Robust Control of a Flexible Single Link Manipulator with Tip Mass," presented advanced technical developments in controlling flexible robotic arms used in aerospace and medical devices, owing to their lightweight structure and high energy efficiency. The research introduced an accurate dynamic model and effective control algorithms to overcome end-effector friction challenges and tip-mass uncertainties. The study featured an optimization framework comparing the Genetic Algorithm (GA) and Whale Optimization Algorithm (WOA) to determine optimal controller parameters. Utilizing MATLAB numerical simulations alongside real-time implementation, the research evaluated the conventional PID controller against the advanced I-FOSMC controller. The findings demonstrated the superiority of WOA, while the I-FOSMC strategy achieved high tracking accuracy and a significant reduction in steady-state error (SSE) by 97.69% compared to traditional configurations.
