Glasgow, UK – Professor Dr. Hasan Shakir Majdi, President of Al-Mustaqbal University, participated in the IAU-EAIE Internationalisation Leadership Dialogue, held at The Sir Jim McDonald Technology and Innovation Centre, University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, United Kingdom, on September 8, 2026. The event focused on discussing internationalisation strategies and higher education dynamics amidst current global challenges, serving as a platform for exchanging strategic expertise among university leaders and higher education executives worldwide. This high-level participation came following an invitation from the International Association of Universities (IAU) and the European Association for International Education (EAIE), aiming to foster international academic collaboration and strengthen strategic partnerships across global higher education institutions. The dialogue opened with welcoming remarks from the host, the University of Strathclyde, followed by addresses from Dr. Hiligje van't Land, Secretary General of the IAU, and Mr. Mervin Bakker, Executive Director of the EAIE. The keynote address, titled "Leading Internationalisation in Turbulent Times," was delivered by Sir Anton Muscatelli, President of the Royal Society of Edinburgh. He presented advanced strategic frameworks, including: The VUCA Prime Leadership Model: Managing higher education institutions through volatile times by leveraging Vision, Understanding, Clarity, and Agility. Sustainable Partnership Models: Effective strategies for building equitable, long-term institutional collaborations. Market Analysis & Trends: Key insights and data on international student mobility and global recruitment trends. During the event, Prof. Dr. Hasan Shakir Majdi actively engaged in interactive roundtable discussions exploring the future of global partnerships, criteria for partner selection, joint degree programs, collaborative research, and the operationalisation of reciprocity. Conversations also tackled re-imagining internationalisation through curriculum design, the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in learning and mobility, and virtual exchanges as modern, sustainable solutions.
