In alignment with its vision to internationalize academic education and elevate scientific research, the University of Al-Mustaqbal held a high-level meeting with Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), USA—a premier institution classified under the Carnegie Classification as a Doctoral University with Very High Research Activity (R1). The meeting aimed to discuss frameworks for joint academic cooperation and the launching of dual Master’s degree programs in next-generation specialties: Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Cybersecurity. The high-profile meeting was led by Professor Dr. Hasan Shakir Majdi (President of the University of Al-Mustaqbal) and Dr. Azim Eskandarian (Dean of the College of Engineering at VCU). The session witnessed active participation from the Iraqi Cultural Mission in Washington D.C. and the Iraqi Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MOHESR), ensuring the proposed programs align with the highest international benchmarks and national regulations. Meeting Agenda & Outcomes The meeting included a comprehensive review of the scientific capabilities and advanced infrastructure of VCU's College of Engineering, highlighting its global distinction in robotics and autonomous systems. Leveraging the strong capabilities of both institutions, the two sides agreed on the broad outlines and structure of the joint Master's program. Commenting on this milestone, Professor Dr. Hasan Shakir Majdi stated: "The University of Al-Mustaqbal adopts an ambitious strategy aimed at elevating the educational and research process from a local scope to broader global horizons. This vision is manifested through a series of practical steps and strategic partnerships with elite international universities and institutions, such as VCU." He further added that the discussions focused on two primary axes: Adopting World-Class Curricula: Working toward offering postgraduate programs (Master's and Ph.D.) in specialized, modern disciplines that rely entirely on the rigorous academic curricula and systems of the partner university. Activating Research Partnerships: Emphasizing advanced fields such as robotics, intelligent systems, and cyber solutions, while promoting joint publications in reputable international journals, and facilitating academic exchange for faculty and researchers to undertake fellowships and scientific residencies abroad. It is worth noting that technical and specialized meetings will continue between the two parties to finalize the administrative procedures and draft the formal agreements, paving the way to secure the official ministerial approvals and launch the programs in the near future.
