Al-Mustaqbal University has achieved a new academic milestone that further strengthens its leading position at both the national and international levels, after ranking first among all Iraqi public and private universities in the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings 2026. The university secured a distinguished global position within the 201–300 category out of 1,603 universities worldwide included in this year’s ranking. The university also ranked first among the 43 Iraqi public and private universities participating in the ranking, reaffirming its national leadership and institutional excellence in achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and transforming them into practical and impactful initiatives on the ground. At the level of sustainable development goals, Al-Mustaqbal University achieved first place in Iraq in several key SDGs, including: • SDG 1: No Poverty • SDG 7: Affordable and Clean Energy • SDG 13: Climate Action • SDG 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions The university also secured second place in Iraq in SDG 4: Quality Education, reflecting the quality of its academic programs and educational initiatives aimed at building qualified human capital capable of leading sustainable development. This achievement represents a continuation of the university’s ongoing success, as Al-Mustaqbal University has maintained its leadership among Iraqi universities in the Times Sustainability Rankings for the second consecutive year, while continuing to rank as the number one private university in Iraq for the fourth consecutive year. This clearly reflects the sustainability of its institutional performance and the effectiveness of its strategic plans. The Times Higher Education Impact Rankings evaluate universities based on their contributions to achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), through precise indicators including quality education, sustainability-related scientific research, knowledge transfer, community service, good governance, equality and inclusion, environmental sustainability, resource efficiency, climate initiatives, as well as local and international partnerships and the university’s role in addressing economic, social, and environmental challenges. On this occasion, the President of Al-Mustaqbal University, Professor Dr. Hassan Shakir Majdi, expressed his great pride in this achievement, emphasizing that the results represent the outcome of the university’s strategic vision and its strong commitment to sustainability principles and institutional excellence. He noted that they reflect the continuous efforts made by the university community across various academic, research, and societal fields. He added that the university’s leadership among Iraqi universities and its advanced global ranking in this prestigious classification confirms its success in aligning its activities and programs with the Sustainable Development Goals and strengthening its role as a pioneering academic institution contributing to building a more sustainable and prosperous future. On the same occasion, Professor Dr. Mahdi Abadi Manea, Director of Mustaqbal Center for Artificial Intelligence Applications, expressed his deep pride and appreciation for Al-Mustaqbal University’s outstanding progress in the 2026 Times Higher Education Impact Rankings, affirming that this achievement embodies the university’s strategic vision and its genuine commitment to achieving sustainable development goals according to the highest international standards. He pointed out that this distinction reflects the significant efforts and institutional integration across all university sectors, particularly in scientific research, innovation, and digital transformation. He also emphasized that the Mustaqbal Center for Artificial Intelligence Applications has been, and continues to be, an active contributor in supporting this direction through the development of smart initiatives and technological projects that enhance institutional sustainability and improve the quality of academic and service performance.
