“Workshop on the Role of the Family in Social Development of the Individual

Within the framework of awareness and educational activities, the Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Division organized a workshop entitled “The Role of the Family in Developing the Social Upbringing of the Individual,” with the participation of a number of faculty members and students. The workshop aimed to highlight the pivotal role played by the family in shaping an individual’s personality and guiding their social behavior, as well as promoting moral and social values that contribute to building a conscious and responsible generation. It also addressed the importance of a healthy family environment in developing communication skills and positive interaction among children. The workshop included several key themes, including modern methods of social upbringing, the impact of family relationships on mental health, and a discussion of the major challenges facing families amid rapid social changes. At the conclusion of the workshop, the organizers emphasized the importance of continuing such awareness activities, which contribute to supporting students psychologically and educationally, and strengthening the role of the family in building a cohesive society.

Difficulties and problems faced by first-year students

As part of efforts to enhance students’ health and psychological awareness, the Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Division, in cooperation with the College of Dentistry, organized an informative and purposeful awareness activity addressing key issues that affect students’ health and behavior. This initiative comes within the framework of supporting a healthy university environment, highlighting the importance of adopting proper health practices and avoiding harmful habits that may negatively impact students’ physical and psychological well-being. The activity witnessed notable engagement from students, as it included the presentation of practical advice and guidance aimed at promoting health awareness, in addition to opening the floor for discussion and answering students’ questions. This collaboration reflects the importance of integrating both health and psychological aspects in building the university student’s character, as well as the commitment of academic institutions to providing comprehensive support for their students.

Visit to the Authority for the Care of Persons with Disabilities and Special Needs / Babylon Branch

A delegation from Al-Mustaqbal University, represented by the College of Dentistry and in cooperation with the Psychological Guidance and Educational Counseling Division, visited the Authority for the Care of Persons with Disabilities and Special Needs / Babylon Branch, in order to review the nature of the services provided to persons with disabilities, monitor the workflow, and identify the أبرز needs and challenges they face. The visit included a meeting with the administration of the Authority and a number of employees, during which work mechanisms and procedures followed in providing services and care to beneficiaries were discussed. It was found that the branch plays an important role in providing support, facilitating official procedures, and serving persons with disabilities and their families. The visit also included a field tour inside the departments and facilities of the Authority, as well as providing medical examinations for children by the College of Dentistry at Al-Mustaqbal University. The staff’s cooperation and commitment to providing the best services to visitors were noted. At the same time, there are some aspects that can be improved, such as enhancing infrastructure, increasing resources, and simplifying administrative procedures. In conclusion, the visit was productive and demonstrated the efforts made by the Authority in caring for and supporting persons with disabilities and special needs, while emphasizing the importance of continuous follow-up and providing the necessary support to improve the quality of services offered.

Campaign to Reduce/Stop Smoking

Within the efforts of the Department of Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance to promote awareness among students and staff, the department organized an awareness campaign to avoid smoking, aiming to reduce the spread of this harmful habit and to promote healthy behaviors within the university environment. The campaign aimed to educate students about the dangers of smoking on general health, its impact on physical and psychological abilities, as well as its negative role in the spread of chronic diseases. The campaign also focused on encouraging smoking students to take serious steps toward quitting and providing them with psychological and informational support. The campaign included a variety of awareness activities, such as: Educational lectures about the direct health effects of smoking. Distribution of brochures offering practical tips for quitting smoking. Posting awareness posters throughout the colleges to warn about the harms of secondhand smoke. The campaign witnessed positive interaction from students, who showed great interest in learning methods of quitting and ways to protect their health. Open discussions also contributed to enhancing collective awareness of the importance of avoiding smoking and creating a healthy and safe university environment. At the conclusion of the campaign, the department affirmed its commitment to continuing the organization of health and awareness activities that contribute to improving student behavior and enhancing community awareness, ensuring a better academic and healthy future for all.

Filial Piety Workshop

As part of the awareness and educational activities, the Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Unit organized a workshop entitled “Honoring One’s Parents.” The workshop was delivered by Asst. Prof. Eman Ghanem Hameed from the College of Pharmacy and Asst. Prof. Muslim Aqeel from the College of Arts and Humanities, and was attended by the University Presidency Advisor, Prof. Dr. Mohsen Abd Ali Al-Furaiji. The workshop aimed to promote moral and human values among participants, highlight the importance of honoring one’s parents and their esteemed status in religion and society, and emphasize their role in building a righteous individual and a cohesive family. The workshop addressed the concept of honoring parents and its religious and social dimensions, supported by Quranic verses and Prophetic traditions that emphasize the great status of parents and the obligation of kindness toward them. It also discussed various forms of honoring parents in daily life, such as obedience, respect, service, and gentle treatment, especially during their advanced years. In addition, the workshop discussed the positive effects of honoring parents on individuals and society, and its reflection on psychological and social stability, as well as the negative consequences of disobedience to parents and the resulting family and social problems. The workshop witnessed notable interaction from participants through discussions, questions, and contributions that enriched its theme

A training workshop for the committees and units of psychological counseling and educational guidance

The Department of Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance organized a training workshop directed to the psychological counseling committees and units in the departments and colleges. The workshop aimed to enhance the skills of those working in the counseling field, raise their efficiency in dealing with students, and unify the work mechanisms among the counseling units across the college/university. The workshop included presentations on a set of main topics, including: Mechanisms of psychological and social support for students. Methods of dealing with behavioral and educational problems. Follow-up and documentation procedures within the counseling units. Ways to enhance a supportive university environment for students. A number of members of the psychological counseling committees in the departments and colleges participated in the workshop, which witnessed positive interaction and constructive discussions that contributed to exchanging experiences and improving performance. The department also emphasized the continuation of such activities to improve the reality of psychological and educational counseling. At the conclusion of the workshop, recommendations were presented to strengthen counseling work and emphasize the importance of cooperation between committees and units to ensure providing the best services to students.
