Preparations Launched for the 4th International Conference on the Future of Sustainable Energy (ICFSE 2026) in Istanbul Under the patronage of Professor Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdi, President of Al-Mustaqbal University, and with direct field supervision by the Dean of the Technical Engineering College, Professor Dr. Azhar Mohsen Abdul, the preparatory and scientific committee of the 4th International Conference on the Future of Sustainable Energy (ICFSE 2026) held an intensive meeting to discuss the executive plans and timeline for the conference, which is scheduled to take place in Istanbul, Turkey, in collaboration and scientific partnership with Istanbul Aydin University. Key Discussion Points: The meeting included a comprehensive review of several strategic topics aimed at enhancing the quality and impact of the conference’s fourth edition: • Attracting Global Expertise: The committee discussed inviting keynote speakers from leading international universities and research centers, particularly from the United Kingdom, Germany, and Romania, to enrich the conference sessions with the latest advancements in energy technologies. • High-Quality Scientific Publishing: Discussions were held on establishing agreements with reputable international publishers to ensure that accepted papers are indexed in global databases and to facilitate the publication process for researchers. • Enhancing Scientific Networking: The committee approved a proposal to organize a scientific tour in Istanbul for participating researchers, aiming to create an interactive environment that fosters direct communication and the exchange of academic expertise between local and international scholars. This conference comes at a time when sustainability is undergoing major global transformations. The organizers aim to position it as a leading international platform that combines academic excellence with cross-border scientific collaboration.
As part of the fourth day of the Fourth International Sustainability Week, the Al-Mustaqbal Center for Energy Research organized an awareness campaign on campus, during which educational brochures were distributed to university students. The campaign aimed to promote awareness of sustainability concepts and the importance of adopting renewable energy sources, by providing simplified information on the role of clean energy in protecting the environment and reducing harmful emissions. The brochures also introduced key renewable energy sources, such as solar and wind energy, highlighting their positive impact on achieving sustainable development. The campaign witnessed notable engagement from students, reflecting their growing interest in environmental issues and their willingness to adopt eco-friendly behaviors. This initiative comes as part of the center’s ongoing efforts to spread environmental awareness and promote a culture of sustainability within the university community.
As part of the activities of the 4th International Sustainability Week, and within the fourth day’s program, Al_Mustaqbal Energy Research Center at Al_Mustaqbal University organized a scientific workshop entitled: “Transition to Renewable Energy for Environmental Sustainability” The workshop was held on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, with the attendance of a number of students and individuals interested in the fields of energy and sustainability. The workshop aimed to highlight the importance of renewable energy and its vital role in achieving environmental sustainability, as well as to discuss the key challenges facing the transition to clean energy, and to review the latest strategies and technologies adopted in this field. The workshop included several scientific topics, including an introduction to renewable energy sources and their role in reducing carbon emissions, in addition to presenting practical applications and recent projects that support the transition toward clean energy. As part of the 4th International Sustainability Week activities, and within the fourth day’s program, the AlMustaqbal Energy Research Centre at AlMstaqbal University organized a scientific workshop entitled: “From Waste to Energy: The Future of Lithium Battery Recycling” The workshop was attended by a number of students, researchers, and individuals interested in the fields of energy and sustainability. It aimed to highlight the importance of recycling lithium batteries and its role in reducing environmental impact and promoting sustainability, in addition to reviewing the latest technologies used in recycling processes and the challenges facing this vital sector. The workshop also covered several topics, including an introduction to lithium batteries and their widespread applications, the environmental risks associated with improper disposal, as well as the economic benefits of recycling and its role in supporting a sustainable energy economy. As part of the activities of the Fourth International Al-Mustaqbal Sustainability Week, and ضمن the third day’s program, the Al-Mustaqbal Center for Energy Research at Al-Mustaqbal University, in collaboration with the Pioneers of Biomedical Engineering Association – Baghdad, organized a specialized workshop in the field of biomedical engineering. The workshop was held in the presence of the Director of the Center, Dr. Salwan Obaid Waheed, and the Head of the Department of Medical Devices Engineering, Dr. Bayan Mahdi Sabbar, along with a distinguished group of students and individuals interested in medical and engineering fields. The workshop aimed to develop students’ skills and enhance their practical knowledge, contributing to preparing qualified graduates capable of meeting the demands of the healthcare sector. The session was delivered by Eng. Issam Ahmed, who highlighted the vital role of biomedical engineers within healthcare institutions, including operating, maintaining, and calibrating medical devices, as well as contributing to their development and design in line with the latest technological advancements. The workshop also included practical demonstrations of various medical devices, emphasizing the engineer’s role in improving performance efficiency and ensuring safety within hospital environments. In addition, it addressed ways to enhance both scientific and practical skills required for successful integration into the job market. The workshop witnessed active engagement from participants, effectively bridging the gap between academic knowledge and real-world applications, and highlighting the importance of biomedical engineering in supporting the healthcare sector. As part of the second day of the Fourth International Sustainability Week at Al-Mustaqbal University, and within the program of workshops and activities organized by the Al-Mustaqbal Center for Energy Research, a specialized scientific workshop was delivered by Lecturer Asmaa Mohammed Hameed from the Department of Power Mechanical Engineering. The workshop, titled “Improving Solar Thermal Energy Efficiency in Sustainable Renewable Energy Systems,” focused on the latest methods and technologies used to enhance the efficiency of solar thermal systems. Projects at Energy Research Center, Al-Mustaqbal As part of the Sustainability Week activities, the Energy Research Center at Al-Mustaqbal University welcomed Dr. Anwar Qasim Saeed, Liaison Officer (Secretary) at UNESCO, representative of the Ministry of Education / Vocational Education Department in Babylon, and a member of the Green and Digital Sectoral Council affiliated with the organization. The visit aimed to strengthen scientific cooperation and exchange expertise in the fields of sustainable energy and vocational education. Dr. Anwar reviewed a number of student-led research and applied projects conducted at the center, focusing on innovative solutions in renewable energy and environmental sustainability. She also toured the laboratories and examined the advanced equipment available at the center, expressing her admiration for the students’ scientific level and the efforts made by the center’s administration in supporting innovation and developing students’ skills in line with global trends toward the green economy and digital transformation. Dr. Anwar emphasized the importance of such initiatives in preparing qualified cadres capable of addressing future challenges, highlighting the need to enhance partnerships between educational institutions and international organizations to achieve sustainable development goals.
