On Thursday, April 17, 2025, Al-Mustaqbal University concluded the First International Conference on Modern Technologies and Their Applications in Sustainable Education, held as part of the Third Al-Mustaqbal International Sustainability Week Festival. The final day featured continued presentations of high-quality scientific research across three parallel sessions discussing digital education, smart transformation, and academic partnerships. In addition, three engaging panel discussions tackled how modern technologies can be employed to support sustainable development goals. The closing ceremony featured a keynote address by Prof. Dr. Nidhal Khdhair Al-Abbadi, Director of the Al-Mustaqbal Center for Artificial Intelligence Applications and a member of the conference's scientific committee. He extended his appreciation to all researchers and participants, presented key statistics from the conference, and emphasized the importance of holding the conference annually to advance scientific research in artificial intelligence and sustainable education. As part of the Third Al-Mustaqbal International Sustainability Week, the largest event dedicated to sustainability in Iraq, Al-Mustaqbal University hosted an insightful dialogue session titled “Technology as a Key to Sustainability”, under the generous support of Prof. Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdi, President of the University, and in alignment with the institution’s renewed vision toward a greener, innovation-driven future. The session was inaugurated by its chair, Prof. Dr. Mahdi Abdul-Kadhim, Dean of the College of Agricultural Technologies, who emphasized the role of hydroponic farming as a forward-thinking approach to achieving food security. He explained how this technique leverages smart tools such as remote sensors and solar energy systems to efficiently manage agricultural operations and promote sustainability. The dialogue focused on two key questions: How can we create a sustainable environment? What is the role of technology in sustainable agriculture? In this context, Engineer Ammar Abdul-Rasoul, Managing Director of “Qalat Al-Tara’ib” Company, presented a successful case study in sustainable agriculture. He shared how his farm operates entirely on solar energy, utilizing hydroponic and aquaponic systems, which has significantly improved productivity while minimizing environmental impact by integrating fish farming and nutrient recycling. The second segment of the session was dedicated to plant tissue culture, featuring: Prof. Dr. Majid Kadhim Abbas – Head of the Medicinal Plants Department Prof. Dr. Tahani Jawad Mohammed Ali – College of Agriculture, Al-Qasim Green University The speakers explored the concept and practical applications of plant tissue culture, particularly its role in disease-free plant production, precise propagation, and synthetic seed technology. They also highlighted the production of secondary metabolites for pharmaceutical and medical use, and the relevance of this technique in various scientific and applied fields. Under the patronage of His Excellency the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Naeem Al-Aboudi, and under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Hassan Shakir Majdi, President of Al-Mustaqbal University, the third edition of the International Future Sustainability Week Festival 2025 was officially launched today at the university campus, with broad participation from official and academic figures from Iraq and abroad. The first day of the festival witnessed the inauguration of the First International Conference on Modern Technologies and Their Applications in Sustainable Education, alongside the opening of several scientific exhibitions featuring initiatives and projects presented by students, researchers, faculty members, and academic departments. These exhibitions reflected promising contributions in support of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The opening ceremony was attended by several prominent figures, including the representative of His Excellency the Minister, President of the University of Babylon, Prof. Dr. Ameen Al-Yasiri; the Governor of Babylon, Mr. Adnan Fayhan Al-Dulaimi; Chairman of the Babylon Provincial Council, Mr. Asaad Al-Muslimawi; and the President of Alanya Alaaddin Keykubat University in Turkey, Prof. Dr. Kenan Ahmet. A number of university presidents, deans, government officials, academics, and researchers were also in attendance. Governor Adnan Fayhan Al-Dulaimi delivered a speech in which he praised the achievements of Al-Mustaqbal University and its pioneering initiatives in community service and quality education. Prof. Dr. Ameen Al-Yasiri, in turn, conveyed the greetings of the Minister to the university’s leadership and staff, wishing the conference and the festival continued success. Prof. Dr. Mudhaffar Sadiq Al-Zuheiri, Director of Scientific and Academic Supervision, delivered a speech on behalf of the University President, noting that this year’s edition coincides with the 15th anniversary of the founding of Al-Mustaqbal University College, and the first anniversary of its transformation into Al-Mustaqbal University. He reaffirmed the university’s commitment to realizing its motto: "Towards a Sustainable University". Dr. Al-Zuheiri also highlighted the pivotal role of artificial intelligence in advancing digital transformation, particularly in the education sector. He pointed to the establishment of the university’s Artificial Intelligence Center in 2024, which has contributed significantly to the university’s leadership in the field. He further noted that sustainability concepts have been integrated into academic curricula, and that more than 65% of the university’s total research output is now aligned with the SDGs. The opening ceremony included two panel discussions. The first focused on global experiences in sustainable education, featuring the delegation of Alanya University and moderated by Prof. Dr. Tariq Jawad, Director of Scientific Affairs at the University Presidency. The second session addressed the role of universities in achieving SDG 4 – Quality Education, with participation from Prof. Dr. Faten Al-Qazzaz, Scientific Assistant to the President of Al-Mustansiriya University; and Ms. Nahida Ahmed Abduljabbar, an expert at the Human Development Directorate and Director of Educational Policy at the Ministry of Planning.
