The University’s Future College holds a workshop on the importance of solar energy in cooperation with James Madison University

In line with the vision of Al-Mustaqbal University College in achieving the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals and its endeavor to lay out basic plans to achieve them and encourage scientific partnerships with international universities, a virtual workshop on the importance of solar energy was held on April 10, 2021, hosted by Professor Dr. Karim Al-Taie from James Madison University in the United States. The American University, in partnership with Assistant Professor Dr. Malik Mustafa Muhammad, Head of the Department of Chemical Engineering and Petroleum Industries at Al-Mustaqbal University College. The Dean of Al-Mustaqbal University College, Prof. Dr. Hassan Shaker Magdy, said, “Al-Mustaqbal University College seeks to be part of the world of sustainability that aspires to achieve economic growth and addresses a series of societal needs, climate changes and environmental protection.” The diversity of the workshop’s attendance from several countries, with the attendance of more than 50 participants, in which the two lecturing professors exchanged their knowledge of the importance of solar energy in Iraq, centered on fruitful discussions. Prof. Dr. Karim Al-Taie explained: “We may not need it here in Harrisonburg, but Iraq is a different story. Iraq is facing a shortage of electricity. At the same time, Iraq is receiving a lot of solar energy. I hope we have planted a seed for the participants to think about how to improve their lives. ” While Assistant Professor Dr. Malek Mustafa Muhammad presented an introduction on solar energy and its importance as a viable alternative with some solutions that make it able to make a positive impact. The importance of this workshop is to be a valuable addition to the awareness efforts that fall on the shoulders of academics in exchanging knowledge, to be a source of inspiration for the participants, as it brings new opportunities for the growth of universities by exploring and implementing technologies that improve the quality of life and promote a more sustainable planet for all.
