The University College of the Future, in cooperation with the CBRN Unit, organized an awareness campaign under the slogan (Safe Disposal of Corona Medical Waste), under the direct sponsorship of the Dean of the Future College, Assistant Professor Dr. Hassan Shaker Magdy, and the supervision of Dr. Zahraa Halim Al-Qayyim in support of health and medical institutions. The campaign aimed to clarify the dangers of disposal. Among the medical prevention kit for confronting the Covid-19 virus in roads and hospitals, as well as for patients who are in home quarantine, and raising the citizen s awareness of the danger of throwing masks, gloves and medical waste. The campaign witnessed the presentation of the guidelines of the World Health Organization and the Iraqi Crisis Cell to reduce injuries and the spread of the epidemic, and help medical procedures provide a safe and healthy environment, and the main need to collect medical waste and isolate it according to ad hoc controls, published earlier in the form of a comprehensive report of the World Health Organization that was published in Its official website, which showed the dangers of treating and disposing of medical waste by releasing pathogens and toxic substances into the environment, stated in the report: (Medical waste is burned on a large scale, but incineration in an inappropriate manner may cause pollutants to be released into the air and Ash residues, and burned materials containing chlorine dioxins and furans, which are “carcinogenic to humans” can generate.
