The Accounting Department held a scientific workshop on the reality of agricultural policies in Iraq and their effectiveness in reducing poverty for residents of villages and rural areas.
On Monday, October 17, on the occasion of World Poverty Day
He lectured at the teaching workshop in the department, M.D. Hamed Abbas Muhammad Al-Marzouk, and summarized as follows:

Agricultural policy is the environment in which agricultural development programs operate and upon which the failure or success of these programs depends. The policies varied according to the nature of the regimes, but in general their objectives were defined in two main points. The first is to achieve satiation for consumers of agricultural commodities, and the second is to achieve profit maximization for agricultural producers. To achieve these goals, the state has taken agricultural policies as the most important tool to direct its economic and social activities through the delivery of appropriate agricultural and priced and healthy commodities to the consumer. Increasing the contribution of the agricultural sector to the GDP and achieving the best picture of sustainable agricultural development. Thus, the increase in the percentage achieved in agricultural development means an increase in the return for workers in this sector, which results in a decrease in the level of the poverty line for this class.
The research aimed at the effectiveness of the agricultural policies followed in Iraq after 2003 and up to the year 2020. The researcher concluded that there are a number of factors that impede the application of agricultural policies in Iraq, foremost of which is administrative and financial corruption and disruption of the policy of support for agricultural products and the adoption of an open market policy for foreign agricultural products, which right The great damage was caused to the producers, and consequently, they were forced to abandon agriculture and resort to another source to earn a living away from agriculture.
The research concluded that most agricultural policies are stalled, timid, ineffective, and do not meet the lowest level to achieve sustainable development
The researcher recommended a set of recommendations, including re-working the agricultural initiative and supporting the agricultural product, especially with regard to strategic crops and protecting the local product from foreign competition.
