In line with the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Al-Mustaqbal’s commitment to enhancing practical education for students and linking academic curricula with field applications, the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the College of Engineering and Technical Sciences organized a scientific visit for fifth-year students to Imam Al-Sadiq Teaching Hospital in Babel Governorate on Monday, 18th November 2024. Engineer Doaa Hussein Hamza<br /><br />The visit aimed to enhance students’ theoretical knowledge by providing hands-on experience with the latest medical devices and technologies used in diagnosis and treatment. The students toured the open-heart surgery unit and the radiology department, where they had the opportunity to observe advanced medical equipment used in open-heart surgeries, such as artificial heart-lung machines, advanced vital signs monitoring systems, and more. In the radiology department, students explored advanced imaging technologies like CT scans and learned about their importance in rapid and accurate disease diagnosis.<br /><br />The students were warmly welcomed by the hospital’s medical and engineering staff, who provided comprehensive explanations and answered the students’ questions about the medical devices and their applications in surgeries and diagnostics.<br /><br />(M.M. Maher Rahman Abdul Amir) also provided a detailed explanation about the hospital’s design, the distribution of its units, and the importance of the geographic and architectural location for large hospitals. He also discussed the services provided by hospitals with high bed capacity (490 beds) and the technical and administrative requirements needed to run such large healthcare institutions.<br /><br />This visit is part of a series of scientific activities organized by the college, aimed at giving students direct field experience and enhancing their understanding of the technical and operational aspects of medical devices, which will help prepare them for the workforce in the field of Biomedical Engineering.
