Assistant Lecturer Hayder Ghazwan Abdulilah, a faculty member in the Department of English, College of Education, Al-Mustaqbal University, presented a critical analysis of the novel The Catcher in the Rye by American writer J. D. Salinger. The analysis explored the character of Holden Caulfield and his rejection of what he describes as “Phoniness” (social hypocrisy and artificiality), as well as his feelings of alienation and anxiety about the transition into adulthood. It also highlighted the importance of self-acceptance and achieving a balance between personal independence and social adaptation.
