As part of the Department of Biochemistry's efforts to promote student scientific activities and strengthen the research and practical dimensions of the educational process, Hussein Khudair, a third-year student in the Department of Biochemistry, College of Science at Al-Mustaqbal University, presented a scientific activity focusing on Lipids, as part of the Lipids course taught by Ms. Hannadi Tahseen Muslim.
The activity provided a scientific overview of the chemical and biological nature of lipids, highlighting their structures, properties, and classifications, as well as the differences among their various types. It also discussed their essential functions in biological systems, emphasizing their importance as major nutritional components involved in energy production and storage, cell membrane formation, organ protection, and the regulation of several physiological and metabolic processes.
Furthermore, the presentation highlighted the physiological significance of lipids and their relationship with human health. It emphasized that understanding the nature and functions of these compounds is fundamental to the study of biochemistry, particularly in areas related to metabolism, nutrition, and maintaining the body's biological balance.
This activity provided an opportunity to strengthen the student's role in the educational process through scientific preparation, research using specialized academic references, and the organized presentation of scientific information. Such practices contribute to reinforcing course concepts while developing presentation, communication, discussion, and analytical thinking skills.
The activity reflects the Department's commitment to adopting educational approaches that encourage independent learning and active student participation, supporting the transition from theoretical knowledge to understanding its scientific and real-life applications.
The initiative is also aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being, by highlighting the importance of lipids in biological processes and healthy nutrition, and SDG 4: Quality Education, through promoting educational quality, scientific research, student initiative, and active participation in academic activities.
