As part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen international academic cooperation and institutional capacity building, Al-Mustaqbal University hosted a specialized three-day training workshop on Erasmus+ programmes and funding opportunities, organized by the European Union Delegation to Iraq in cooperation with the Department of International and Arab Organizations at the Iraqi Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, from 21 to 23 September 2026.
The workshop brought together representatives from public and private universities across Iraq’s Middle Euphrates region, with the participation of Prof. Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdi, President of Al-Mustaqbal University, alongside representatives of the EU Delegation, the Ministry of Higher Education, and university academic leaders.
The three-day programme covered key aspects of Erasmus+, including institutional capacity building, competitive project proposal development, International Credit Mobility (ICM), Erasmus Mundus, and Jean Monnet Actions. It also addressed administrative and financial procedures for implementing EU-funded projects, student and staff mobility, and opportunities for establishing sustainable academic and research partnerships with European universities.
Through interactive training sessions, practical discussions, and presentations of successful Iraqi university experiences, participants explored common challenges and practical approaches to transforming Erasmus+ opportunities into competitive, implementable projects with measurable institutional and academic impact.
During the workshop, Prof. Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdi emphasized the importance of moving beyond awareness of international funding opportunities toward developing strategic partnerships and sustainable projects. He highlighted the university’s commitment to expanding its participation in European programmes, particularly following its recent success in securing a Jean Monnet grant under Erasmus+.
Hosting this workshop reflects Al-Mustaqbal University’s commitment to the internationalization of higher education, strengthening the institutional readiness of Iraqi universities, and expanding opportunities for academic mobility, joint research, and long-term cooperation with European higher education institutions.
