The Department of Biochemistry at the College of Science, Al-Mustaqbal University, organized a scientific seminar entitled “University Student Ethics and Their Role in Promoting Scientific and Human Values.” The seminar was delivered by Asst. Prof. Dr. Aseel Amer Hadi, Rapporteur of the Department of Biochemistry, who discussed the importance of university ethics in shaping students’ personalities and raising their awareness of their scientific, academic, and human responsibilities. The seminar highlighted the essential role of ethical principles in promoting positive behavior and fostering a responsible academic culture within the university environment. The seminar addressed several key topics related to the importance of adhering to ethical principles in university life, emphasizing that these principles form the foundation for building positive relationships between students and faculty members. Mutual respect, cooperation, discipline, and commitment to university regulations were highlighted as essential elements in creating a supportive educational environment that enables students to achieve their academic goals while developing their personal and intellectual abilities. Academic integrity and scientific honesty were also among the main subjects discussed during the seminar. The lecturer emphasized the importance of honesty and responsibility when preparing scientific research, reports, and academic assignments, while stressing the need to avoid cheating and plagiarism and to respect intellectual property rights. Adherence to these principles represents a fundamental requirement for developing scientifically competent students who can conduct research, analyze information, and apply critical-thinking skills. Furthermore, academic integrity contributes to maintaining the credibility of scientific achievements and establishing a culture of honesty throughout university education. The seminar also explored the significance of human values in university life, including respect for others, acceptance of different opinions, tolerance, teamwork, accountability, and positive interaction with fellow students. These values play an important role in developing students’ communication and dialogue skills and strengthening their ability to participate effectively in scientific and social activities. Promoting such principles also contributes to students’ personal growth and prepares them to interact professionally and responsibly in their future workplaces. The lecturer further explained that a university student’s role extends beyond acquiring knowledge and achieving high examination grades. It also involves demonstrating responsible behavior and applying ethical values in everyday situations, both within and outside the university. University education represents a crucial stage in preparing individuals who possess scientific knowledge, social awareness, and the ability to make sound decisions while adhering to principles that strengthen trust, mutual respect, and social responsibility. The seminar emphasized that integrating scientific knowledge with ethical conduct is essential for developing well-rounded graduates capable of contributing positively to their communities. Students who demonstrate academic integrity, respect for others, and a strong sense of responsibility are better prepared to face professional challenges and apply their knowledge in ways that serve society and support scientific advancement. This seminar is part of the scientific and educational activities organized by the Department of Biochemistry at the College of Science, Al-Mustaqbal University. These initiatives aim to strengthen students’ academic awareness, reinforce the principles of integrity and responsibility, and contribute to building a university environment that combines scientific excellence, ethical commitment, and human values.
