As part of its scientific activities aimed at enhancing academic knowledge and connecting theoretical concepts with engineering applications, the Civil Engineering Department at the College of Engineering, Al-Mustaqbal University, organized a scientific activity entitled “Hydrology and Its Importance in Civil Engineering.” The activity was supervised by Assistant Lecturer Zahra Hussein Mohammed and Assistant Lecturer Lina Hussein Ali, with the aim of familiarizing students with the importance of hydrology and its role in engineering project planning and water resources management. The activity included an overview of the fundamental concepts of hydrology and its role in studying the natural water cycle, analyzing rainfall and surface runoff, estimating water discharge, and managing water resources. It also highlighted hydrology’s applications in reducing the risks of floods and flash floods, thereby supporting effective planning for engineering projects. Furthermore, the activity emphasized the importance of employing scientific methods and modern technologies in hydrological analysis, particularly their applications in the design of dams, reservoirs, and stormwater drainage networks, as well as in the study of watersheds and the assessment of related risks. These applications play a vital role in improving the efficiency of engineering projects and achieving environmental sustainability. The activity contributed to enhancing students’ scientific awareness and broadening their understanding of hydrology’s role in addressing water-related, environmental, and climatic challenges. It also highlighted the importance of hydrological science in supporting engineering decision-making and ensuring the optimal use of water resources. This activity reflects the Civil Engineering Department’s commitment at Al-Mustaqbal University to expanding students’ knowledge, developing their scientific capabilities, and strengthening their understanding of engineering applications related to water management and sustainable development, in line with scientific and technological advancements in civil engineering.
