As part of its ongoing efforts to enhance academic knowledge and develop students’ scientific and technical competencies, Prof. Dr. Haider Al-Janabi delivered a specialized scientific lecture entitled “GSM Mobile Communication Networks: Fundamental Architecture and Information Transmission Mechanisms” to fourth-year students of the Department of Computer Engineering Technology, College of Engineering Technology, at Al-Mustaqbal University. The lecture was held on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, as part of the Mobile Communications course.
The lecture addressed the scientific foundations and engineering principles of the Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM), highlighting its significance as one of the fundamental technologies in the evolution of digital cellular communication networks. It also explored the technical principles underlying GSM architecture and its role in providing wireless communication services and facilitating information transmission between mobile devices.
During the lecture, Prof. Dr. Haider Al-Janabi presented a comprehensive overview of the architectural structure of GSM networks and their essential components, including Base Transceiver Stations (BTS), Base Station Controllers (BSC), and Mobile Switching Centers (MSC). Furthermore, he explained signaling procedures, information transmission mechanisms across cellular networks, communication management principles, radio coverage, and handover processes between cells.
The lecture aimed to strengthen students’ theoretical understanding of cellular communication systems and enhance their specialized knowledge of mobile communication engineering. By connecting academic concepts with the technical architecture of communication networks, the lecture contributed to developing students’ abilities to understand wireless communication systems and the technologies employed in modern telecommunications networks.
The scientific lecture witnessed strong attendance and active engagement from fourth-year students, reflecting their interest in specialized engineering disciplines and their commitment to expanding their knowledge of digital communication technologies. Such academic activities contribute to preparing students to keep pace with the rapid technological advancements in telecommunications and information technology.
This lecture forms part of Al-Mustaqbal University’s ongoing commitment to advancing the quality of engineering education, fostering an academic environment that encourages scientific and technological learning, and preparing qualified engineering graduates equipped with the essential knowledge and competencies required by the evolving labor market.
These efforts align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4): Quality Education, which emphasizes the importance of ensuring inclusive, equitable, and high-quality education while promoting lifelong learning opportunities and sustainable human capacity development.
