As part of its efforts to raise awareness of the importance of engineering disciplines and their role in achieving sustainable development, the Civil Engineering Department at the College of Engineering, Al-Mustaqbal University, organised an introductory activity in the New Student Registration Hall. The activity was supervised by the department rapporteur, Assistant Lecturer Lina Hussein Ali, with the participation of a group of second-year students. The activity included an introductory tour to engage with new students and their families, during which the importance of civil engineering, its practical applications, and its vital role in designing and implementing infrastructure projects that meet community needs and contribute to improving quality of life were highlighted. The activity also focused on the role of civil engineering in promoting sustainability through the development of green infrastructure, the efficient use of natural resources, and the reduction of carbon emissions. It further highlighted the importance of designing resilient structures capable of adapting to climate change and providing safe and inclusive urban environments. In addition, the activity addressed the significance of protecting water resources and soil through modern treatment and stabilisation techniques and the use of environmentally friendly materials. The activity aimed to familiarise new students with the academic and professional opportunities offered by civil engineering and enhance their understanding of the civil engineer’s role in building sustainable communities and keeping pace with technological advancements. These efforts contribute to supporting development and creating a better future for generations to come.
