As part of its academic and community role in addressing key national economic issues, the College of Administrative Sciences at Al-Mustaqbal University organized a scientific event to discuss the implications of the devaluation of the Iraqi dinar and its impact on the national economy and citizens’ living standards. The event was held on Tuesday, October 20, 2026. The event was held under the patronage of the President of Al-Mustaqbal University, Professor Dr. Hassan Shakir Majdi, and supervised by the Dean of the College of Administrative Sciences, Professor Dr. Haider Ali Al-Dulaimi. It brought together a distinguished group of economic experts and academics, as well as professors and researchers from Iraqi universities and community representatives from Babil Governorate. The discussions addressed the major economic and social consequences associated with changes in the value of the national currency, particularly their impact on purchasing power and living standards. They also examined the implications for fiscal and monetary policies and domestic financial stability, amid international economic developments, fluctuations in the US dollar exchange rate, and the nature of the Iraqi economy, which relies heavily on oil revenues. Participants emphasized the importance of adopting economic perspectives grounded in scientific research and objective analysis when examining exchange rate policies. They also highlighted the need to consider the social dimensions and effects of such policies on different segments of society, particularly those most vulnerable to economic changes, in order to assess available alternatives and support the development of policies that better address current challenges. This event reflects Al-Mustaqbal University’s ongoing efforts to promote academic dialogue on national issues and mobilize scientific and research expertise to analyze economic challenges. It also contributes to raising economic awareness and reinforcing the University’s role in serving the community. Al-Mustaqbal University — The No. 1 University in Iraq.
