Department of Forensic Sciences at Al-Mustaqbal University Organizes a Scientific Workshop Entitled “Hematocrit Technique: Practical Application in Blood Testing” As part of Al-Mustaqbal University's commitment to strengthening scientific and practical education and developing students' laboratory competencies, the Department of Forensic Sciences at the College of Science organized a scientific workshop entitled "Hematocrit Technique: Practical Application in Blood Testing," presented by Assistant Lecturer Bushra Hussein Atiya. The workshop aimed to enhance students' practical skills and scientific understanding of blood analysis and laboratory diagnostic techniques. The workshop addressed the fundamental scientific principles of the Hematocrit (HCT) technique, an important laboratory method used to determine the percentage of red blood cell volume in relation to the total blood volume. It also highlighted the significance of this measurement in evaluating health conditions and identifying certain hematological disorders. The workshop included a practical explanation of hematocrit testing using capillary tubes and centrifugation techniques. It also covered proper blood sample handling, procedures for reading and interpreting test results, and factors that may influence the accuracy and reliability of laboratory measurements. Furthermore, the workshop emphasized the diagnostic importance of hematocrit testing in assessing conditions such as anemia, dehydration, and elevated red blood cell levels, while highlighting the importance of biosafety procedures and laboratory quality standards. The workshop aimed to develop students' technical and laboratory competencies, improve their ability to use laboratory instruments and equipment correctly, and strengthen the integration of theoretical knowledge with practical applications. These efforts contribute to preparing qualified graduates for professional careers in medical and forensic laboratories. This workshop forms part of the ongoing scientific and training activities organized by the Department of Forensic Sciences at the College of Science, Al-Mustaqbal University, reflecting its commitment to improving academic standards, practical training, and educational outcomes. Contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) The workshop aligns with several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly: - SDG 3 – Good Health and Well-Being: By promoting knowledge of blood testing techniques and their importance in health assessment, the identification of hematological disorders, and laboratory diagnosis. - SDG 4 – Quality Education: By providing hands-on learning opportunities, strengthening students' scientific and laboratory competencies, and improving the quality of higher education. - SDG 8 – Decent Work and Economic Growth: By developing students' professional and technical skills and enhancing their readiness for employment in medical and forensic laboratories. Through this scientific workshop, Al-Mustaqbal University reaffirms its commitment to practical education, professional development, and the integration of the Sustainable Development Goals into its academic and training activities.
