The College of Law at Al-Mustaqbal University held a scientific seminar entitled “Self-Defense from a Legal Perspective,” delivered by Assistant Lecturer Zainab Khalid Muhi. The seminar addressed the concept of legitimate self-defense and its importance in protecting individuals against unlawful attacks within the framework of the law.
The seminar discussed the conditions of legitimate self-defense, the importance of proportionality between the defense and the severity of the attack, and the position of the Iraqi legislator under the amended Iraqi Penal Code No. (111) of 1969. It also clarified the circumstances in which self-defense is considered lawful and those in which it exceeds the limits permitted by law.
The seminar emphasized the importance of raising legal awareness of individuals’ rights and duties and distinguishing lawful self-defense from revenge, thereby promoting respect for the law and safeguarding rights and freedoms.
This seminar is part of the scientific activities organized by the College of Law at Al-Mustaqbal University to enhance legal awareness and discuss Iraqi legislation and its practical applications.
