As part of its academic and research role in addressing key national economic issues, the College of Administrative Sciences at Al-Mustaqbal University organized a scientific event on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, to discuss the implications of the depreciation of the Iraqi dinar and its impact on the national economy and citizens’ purchasing power.
The event was held under the patronage of the University President, Professor Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdi, and supervised by the Dean of the College, Professor Dr. Haider Ali Al-Dulaimi. It brought together a distinguished group of economic experts, academics, and researchers from several Iraqi universities, alongside community representatives from Babil Governorate.
The event examined the effects of fluctuations in the Iraqi dinar’s exchange rate on living standards and financial stability, as well as the implications of movements in the US dollar and international monetary developments for the Iraqi economy, particularly given the country’s heavy reliance on oil revenues.
The discussions emphasized the importance of analyzing exchange rate policies from an integrated economic and social perspective, drawing on scientific studies and research to evaluate existing policies and proposed alternatives. Particular attention was given to the impact of economic changes on citizens’ purchasing power, especially among the most vulnerable groups.
This event forms part of Al-Mustaqbal University’s ongoing efforts to promote academic dialogue on current economic challenges and strengthen the role of scientific research and academic expertise in examining national issues. These efforts aim to raise economic awareness and foster stronger ties between academic institutions and the wider community.
