Al-Mustaqbal University held a scientific workshop entitled “The Devaluation of the Iraqi Dinar: Between Economic Gains and Social Costs” on Tuesday, October 20, 2026. The workshop was held under the patronage of the University President, Professor Dr. Hassan Shakir Majdi, and under the supervision of the College Dean, Professor Dr. Haider Ali Al-Dulaimi, with the participation of distinguished economic experts, academics, and researchers from various Iraqi universities.
The workshop addressed the implications of the Iraqi dinar’s devaluation and its impact on the national economy, citizens’ purchasing power, and living standards. It also examined the effects of international monetary developments and fluctuations in the US dollar on local financial stability.
The workshop featured three main topics: the social costs of the dinar’s devaluation, the potential economic benefits of exchange rate adjustments, and the impact of international monetary policies on the Iraqi economy. These topics were presented by Professor Dr. Nabil Al-Marsoumi, Professor Dr. Abdul Rahman Al-Mashhadani, and Professor Dr. Kamel Allawi.
Participants emphasized the importance of relying on scientific studies to evaluate exchange rate policies, taking into account their economic and social implications, while promoting financial stability and protecting citizens’ purchasing power.
This workshop is part of the College of Administrative Sciences’ efforts at Al-Mustaqbal University to promote academic dialogue and address national economic issues, contributing to greater economic awareness and community service.
