Al-Mustaqbal University discussed the implications of the Iraqi dinar devaluation and its impact on the national economy and citizens’ purchasing power during a scientific event organized by the College of Administrative Sciences on Tuesday, October 20, 2026. The event was held under the patronage of the University President, Professor Dr. Hassan Shakir Majdi, and under the supervision of the College Dean, Professor Dr. Haider Ali Al-Dulaimi. It brought together a distinguished group of economic experts, academics, and researchers from Iraqi universities, alongside community figures from Babil Governorate.
The event examined the impact of changes in the dinar exchange rate on living standards and local financial stability, as well as the implications of fluctuations in the US dollar and international monetary developments for the Iraqi economy, given the country’s heavy reliance on oil revenues.
Participants emphasized the importance of examining exchange rate policies from an integrated economic and social perspective and relying on scientific research to evaluate policies and proposed alternatives, while taking into account the effects of economic changes on purchasing power and the most vulnerable segments of society.
This event reflects Al-Mustaqbal University’s commitment to promoting academic dialogue on national economic issues and utilizing scientific expertise and research to analyze current challenges, thereby contributing to greater economic awareness and serving the community.
