Under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdi, President of Al-Mustaqbal University, and under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Haider Ali Al-Dulaimi, Dean of the College of Administrative Sciences, the College organised a specialised scientific workshop on Tuesday, 20 October 2026, entitled “Devaluation of the Iraqi Dinar: Between Economic Gains and Social Costs.” The workshop attracted a distinguished gathering of financial and monetary experts, academics, community representatives from Babil Governorate, and professors and researchers from various Iraqi universities. The workshop featured extensive discussions across three main themes, examining the implications of changes in the value of the national currency and their broader impact on financial policies. The first theme, “Social Costs,” was presented by Prof. Dr. Nabil Al-Marsoumi, an economic expert at Al-Ma’qal University, who discussed the direct effects of currency devaluation on purchasing power and the cost of living. The second theme, “Economic Gains and the Exchange Rate,” was presented by Prof. Dr. Abdul Rahman Al-Mashhadani, Head of the Department of Digital Economics at the Iraqi University, who examined the implications of exchange-rate adjustments for monetary policy. The third theme, “International Monetary Developments,” was presented by Prof. Dr. Kamel Allawi, Professor of Monetary Policy at the University of Kufa, who explained the role of US Federal Reserve decisions and fluctuations in the US dollar in shaping domestic financial stability. The workshop concluded with a set of strategic academic recommendations emphasising that exchange-rate decisions should be informed by comprehensive scientific studies that carefully balance economic objectives with social considerations, particularly to protect the most vulnerable groups. This initiative reflects Al-Mustaqbal University’s commitment to engaging with pressing national issues and providing decision-makers with well-informed solutions, reinforcing its position as Iraq’s leading private university.
