As part of Al-Mustaqbal University's commitment to developing students' abilities and strengthening their academic and professional competencies, the Department of Biochemistry at the College of Science organized an educational workshop entitled “Building the Professional Personality of University Students.” The workshop was delivered by Prof. Dr. Naser A. Naser Al-Taie and aimed to highlight the importance of developing well-rounded university students equipped with scientific knowledge, practical skills, and professional values that prepare them for success in their future careers. The workshop explored the concept of professional personality and its role in shaping students' academic and career paths. It emphasized that professional success depends not only on academic achievement but also on effective communication, teamwork, accountability, and adherence to ethical and professional standards. Particular attention was given to self-confidence, discipline, time management, and sound decision-making as essential qualities that enable students to face challenges and adapt to the changing demands of the workplace. The workshop also highlighted the importance of students taking an active role in developing their abilities throughout their university education. Participation in academic activities, scientific events, practical training, and collaborative initiatives provides valuable opportunities to enhance personal competencies and gain experience. The university stage was presented as a formative period in which students can develop the skills and attitudes necessary to transition successfully from academic learning to professional practice. These topics are particularly relevant to students of Biochemistry, whose field requires a combination of theoretical knowledge, laboratory proficiency, accuracy, adherence to safety procedures, and professional ethics. Developing these qualities during university education helps prepare students for future responsibilities in medical laboratories, healthcare institutions, research centres, and academic environments. Professional competence is strengthened when scientific knowledge is accompanied by integrity, attention to detail, effective communication, and a strong sense of responsibility. The workshop aligns with Sustainable Development Goal 4: Quality Education, particularly Target 4.4, which focuses on increasing the number of young people and adults who possess relevant skills for employment, decent jobs, and entrepreneurship. It also supports Sustainable Development Goal 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth, by emphasizing the development of professional competencies that improve students' readiness for employment and their capacity to contribute to economic and social development. This initiative reflects the commitment of the College of Science and the Department of Biochemistry at Al-Mustaqbal University to providing educational activities that extend beyond specialized academic knowledge. By promoting personal development, professional skills, and awareness of workplace responsibilities, the university continues to support the preparation of scientifically competent, professionally responsible, and socially engaged graduates who can contribute effectively to their communities.
