Climate change is one of the most prominent challenges facing societies in the modern era, due to its far-reaching effects on the environment, the economy, health, and the daily lives of individuals. Phenomena such as rising temperatures, declining rainfall, drought, and increased heat waves have become more pronounced in many parts of the world, making addressing climate change a shared responsibility among individuals, institutions, and communities. The effects of climate change are not limited to environmental alterations alone; they extend to influencing human behavior and how we interact with natural resources. With increased awareness of environmental risks, many individuals are becoming more concerned with conserving water and electricity, reducing plastic use, preserving green spaces, and disposing of waste more responsibly. Changing environmental behavior is one of the most important ways to mitigate the negative impacts of climate change. The family plays a crucial role in shaping an individual's environmental behavior from childhood. Simple daily habits, such as avoiding excessive water and electricity consumption and maintaining cleanliness, can become lifelong behaviors for children. Educational institutions, particularly universities, also contribute to raising environmental awareness through lectures, activities, and initiatives that encourage students to participate in environmental protection. On the other hand, media outlets and social media platforms contribute to increasing awareness of climate issues by disseminating information, launching awareness campaigns, and encouraging individuals to adopt more sustainable practices. However, awareness alone is not enough; it must be translated into concrete actions in daily life to have a real impact on society. Encouraging volunteer work and environmental initiatives is an effective way to promote environmentally responsible behavior, such as tree-planting campaigns, cleaning public spaces, and spreading a culture of recycling and waste reduction. Furthermore, institutional support for these initiatives can contribute to transforming individual behavior into a shared societal culture. In Iraqi society, the importance of raising awareness about climate change is highlighted by the challenges associated with rising temperatures, drought, water scarcity, and the decline of green spaces. Therefore, spreading environmental awareness and encouraging individuals to use resources responsibly are crucial steps toward building a society more resilient to climate challenges. In conclusion, addressing climate change depends not only on government decisions and large-scale projects, but also begins with the daily behavior of individuals. The more aware a society is of the importance of environmental conservation, the more capable it will be of adopting sustainable lifestyles. Therefore, building responsible environmental behavior is a crucial foundation for confronting the effects of climate change and achieving a more sustainable future for generations to come.
