As part of its efforts to raise awareness of mental health and foster a culture of psychological and social support within the university environment, the Civil Engineering Department at the College of Engineering, Al-Mustaqbal University, organized an awareness campaign for university students entitled “Speak Up, You Are Not Alone.” The campaign was conducted by Assistant Lecturer Lina Hussein Ali, Rapporteur of the Civil Engineering Department, with the participation of a group of department students.
The campaign aimed to encourage students to express the challenges and pressures they face, promote a culture of seeking help and psychological support, and emphasize that talking about problems is an important first step toward overcoming them and beginning the recovery process.
The campaign highlighted the importance of mental health in students’ lives and its role in achieving psychological and social well-being and improving academic performance. It also emphasized the need to provide a safe and supportive university environment where students can freely express their feelings and needs, away from the social stigma associated with mental health challenges.
This initiative aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) through promoting mental health and well-being; SDG 4 (Quality Education) by supporting psychological stability as an important factor in improving academic achievement; and SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities) by raising awareness, addressing social stigma, and promoting equal access to support for all students.
This campaign reaffirms the commitment of the Civil Engineering Department at Al-Mustaqbal University to supporting humanitarian and awareness-raising initiatives that contribute to building a more informed and cohesive university community while promoting the values of empathy, solidarity, and social responsibility.
