As part of its efforts to strengthen international academic cooperation and expand partnerships with leading global universities, Al-Mustaqbal University held a virtual meeting on Thursday, October 15, 2026, with Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), USA, to explore opportunities for scientific and academic collaboration and discuss the development of postgraduate programs and joint professional certificates. These initiatives aim to enhance the quality of education and strengthen academic and professional skills. The meeting was attended by the President of Al-Mustaqbal University, Prof. Dr. Hassan Shakir Majdi; Director of Scientific and Academic Supervision, Prof. Dr. Muzaffar Sadiq Al-Zuhairi; Dean of the College of Engineering Technologies, Prof. Dr. Azhar Mohsen Abd; and Dean of the College of Engineering, Assist. Prof. Dr. Ali Shakir Majdi. A number of department heads and university administration representatives also participated, alongside officials responsible for scientific and academic cooperation at Virginia Commonwealth University and Dr. Hussein Al-Sheikh from the Iraqi Cultural Attaché Office in Washington, D.C. The meeting addressed several proposed areas of cooperation, particularly the development of master's degree programs, the possibility of hosting academic programs at Al-Mustaqbal University, and the introduction of short-term professional certificates and specialized training programs. These initiatives would facilitate the exchange of expertise, maximize the academic and scientific capabilities of both institutions, and provide students and faculty members with valuable educational and training opportunities. Both sides also discussed the academic and administrative requirements for implementing the proposed programs and the mechanisms for developing them in accordance with recognized academic standards. They emphasized the importance of evaluating available options and identifying the most feasible areas of cooperation as a preliminary step toward establishing practical measures that support an effective and sustainable academic partnership.
