As part of its efforts to keep pace with global developments in higher education and broaden its scientific cooperation, Al Mustaqbal University held a virtual meeting with Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), USA, to explore new academic initiatives and opportunities to develop specialized postgraduate and professional education programmes. The meeting was chaired on behalf of Al Mustaqbal University by its President, Professor Hassan Shakir Majdi, and attended by Professor Muzaffar Sadiq Al-Zuhairi, Director of Scientific and Academic Supervision; Professor Azhar Mohsen Abd, Dean of the College of Engineering Technologies; Assistant Professor Dr Ali Shakir Majdi, Dean of the College of Engineering; and several department heads and specialists from the University Presidency. Representatives responsible for scientific and academic cooperation at Virginia Commonwealth University also participated, alongside Dr Hussein Al-Sheikh from the Iraqi Cultural Attaché’s Office in Washington, D.C. The meeting explored several potential areas of cooperation aimed at advancing the educational environment, particularly postgraduate programmes, the possibility of delivering academic programmes at Al Mustaqbal University, short-term professional certificates, and specialized training courses designed to develop students’ and faculty members’ scientific and practical skills. Both sides exchanged views on the mechanisms for developing the proposed programmes and the requirements for their approval and implementation. Discussions focused on identifying suitable areas that align with academic and professional needs and offer meaningful opportunities to enhance students’ and faculty members’ capabilities. The discussions also highlighted the importance of maintaining coordination between the two institutions to further examine the proposed initiatives and identify future implementation mechanisms, paving the way for productive scientific cooperation based on knowledge exchange and educational programme development. This initiative forms part of Al Mustaqbal University’s vision to strengthen its engagement with international academic institutions, benefit from advanced educational experiences, and expand opportunities for its students and graduates.
