Within the framework of promoting its societal and awareness-raising role, and as part of its series of humanitarian and community service activities, the Department of Optics Technologies at Al-Mustaqbal University organized a specialized awareness lecture on first aid for the eye, held at the orphanage in Babylon Governorate on Sunday, 11/10/2026. The lecture was carried out by Asst. Lect. Safaa Amer Khalil, Asst. Lect. Hamza Nader Abdul Aoun, and Ms. Ghufran Sabah Taama, in the presence of a number of children and the staff working at the orphanage. The lecture aimed to spread health and visual awareness about the importance of properly dealing with eye injuries that may occur suddenly, and to provide attendees with the basic information and skills needed to handle them quickly and accurately before referring to the relevant medical authorities. The lecture included a simplified explanation of the most common eye injuries, such as the entry of foreign bodies, chemical burns, direct trauma, and acute inflammations, in addition to clarifying the correct steps to be followed in each case, and the common mistakes that may worsen the injury. A practical and interactive demonstration was also presented to the attendees to illustrate the correct method of providing first aid to the eye, with the floor opened for questions and inquiries raised by the children and the staff, reflecting their interaction with the topic and its importance. This initiative reflects Al-Mustaqbal University's vision of consolidating its awareness-raising and health role alongside its academic role, and its active contribution to serving the community and supporting the most needy groups, reflecting the values of responsibility, mercy, and solidarity that the university is keen to instill in society.
