Al Mustaqbal University President Strengthens the University’s International Presence at the UNIMED General Assembly in Spain

Professor Dr. Hassan Shakir Majdi, President of Al Mustaqbal University, participated in the proceedings of the UNIMED General Assembly 2026, hosted by the University of Barcelona in Spain on October 7–8, 2026. The event coincided with the 35th anniversary of the founding of the Union of Mediterranean Universities (UNIMED) and brought together a wide range of university presidents and representatives of academic and educational institutions from across the Mediterranean region and Europe. The General Assembly discussed the Union’s strategic priorities and action plan for the coming phase, focusing on advancing higher education and scientific research. Key areas included strengthening academic governance, supporting digital transformation in education, promoting intercultural dialogue, improving graduate employability by developing skills aligned with labor market requirements, ensuring the continuity of higher education during emergencies and crises, and enhancing universities’ contributions to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. The meetings also featured specialized sessions exploring the future directions of the Erasmus+ Programme for 2028–2034, discussing mechanisms to enhance academic mobility for students and academic staff, expanding capacity-building opportunities and international partnerships, and reviewing master’s scholarship opportunities and Jean Monnet Actions, which aim to support academic cooperation and promote European studies. This participation reflects Al Mustaqbal University’s distinguished international academic presence. The university is the only private university in Iraq to have secured a Jean Monnet grant under the European Union’s programmes, demonstrating its growing academic capabilities and active engagement in international educational and research initiatives. Professor Dr. Hassan Shakir Majdi emphasized Al Mustaqbal University’s commitment to expanding international cooperation, strengthening partnerships with universities and academic institutions worldwide, and adopting best practices in education and research. These efforts aim to improve the quality of higher education, expand academic exchange opportunities, and support educational and research development in Iraq.
