Professor Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdi, President of Al-Mustaqbal University, participated in the proceedings of the UNIMED General Assembly 2026, hosted by the University of Barcelona in Spain on October 7–8, 2026. The event coincided with the 35th anniversary of the Union’s establishment and brought together several university presidents and representatives of academic and educational institutions from countries across the Mediterranean region and Europe.
The General Assembly addressed the Union’s strategic priorities and action plan, focusing on strengthening cooperation among higher education institutions and advancing education and scientific research in line with academic and technological developments and the requirements of sustainable development.
The discussions covered several key areas, including higher education governance, digital education, intercultural dialogue, developing students’ skills and enhancing their employability, ensuring educational continuity in emergencies and crises, and strengthening the role of universities in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and protecting the environment.
The meetings also reviewed proposed directions for the Erasmus+ Programme for the 2028–2034 period and mechanisms for promoting academic mobility for students and academic staff. In addition, discussions addressed opportunities for institutional capacity building, expanding international partnerships, master’s scholarship programmes, and Jean Monnet Actions.
In this context, Al-Mustaqbal University’s participation in European academic cooperation programmes represents an important aspect of its international engagement. The University has obtained a Jean Monnet grant, reflecting its commitment to expanding its involvement in international academic initiatives and strengthening cooperation with European educational institutions.
During his participation, Professor Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdi emphasized the importance of engaging in international academic forums, which provide valuable opportunities for exchanging expertise, learning about modern educational practices, and developing research and academic partnerships. These efforts support Al-Mustaqbal University’s commitment to improving the quality of higher education and strengthening its engagement with universities worldwide.
This participation forms part of Al-Mustaqbal University’s broader strategy to expand international cooperation, develop its academic and research programmes, and contribute to educational and scientific advancement in ways that serve students and society while keeping pace with developments in the higher education sector.
