Al-Mustaqbal University President Strengthens International Academic Cooperation at UNIMED in Barcelona

Prof. Dr. Hassan Shakir Majdi, President of Al-Mustaqbal University, participated in the UNIMED General Assembly 2026, hosted by the University of Barcelona, Spain, on 7–8 October 2026. The event coincided with the 35th anniversary of the Euro-Mediterranean University Union (UNIMED) and brought together university presidents and representatives of academic and educational institutions from across the Mediterranean region and Europe. The Assembly addressed the Union’s strategic priorities and action plan for advancing higher education and scientific research. Key areas of discussion included higher education governance, digital education, intercultural dialogue, graduate employability, continuity of education during emergencies and crises, and sustainable development. The meetings also explored the proposed Erasmus+ programme framework for 2028–2034, mechanisms for strengthening student and staff mobility, international partnerships, capacity building, master’s scholarship opportunities, and the European Union’s Jean Monnet Actions. Al-Mustaqbal University’s participation reflects its commitment to expanding international academic cooperation. According to the information provided, the University is the only private university in Iraq to have secured a Jean Monnet grant, highlighting its engagement in European academic programmes and initiatives.
