Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research Announces the Participation of 92 Iraqi Universities and Colleges in the UI GreenMetric 2026 Rankings, with Al-Mustaqbal University Ranking First Among Private Universities and Third Nationally A New Achievement Reinforcing the University’s Leadership in Sustainability and Strengthening Its Presence Among Iraqi and Global Universities Al-Mustaqbal University has achieved a new milestone in the field of university sustainability, ranking first among private universities in Iraq and third among Iraqi public and private universities, according to the results of the UI GreenMetric World University Rankings 2026. This achievement was announced in a publication issued today by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, adding another milestone to the University’s growing record of achievements in sustainability and institutional excellence. The University achieved a total score of 8,475 out of 10,000, reflecting its continued commitment to embedding sustainability principles and applying them across academic, administrative, and environmental fields, while advancing the transition toward a smart and sustainable university environment, in line with its slogan, “Towards a Sustainable University.” Al-Mustaqbal University demonstrated outstanding performance across several ranking indicators, most notably the Water category, where it achieved a perfect score of 1,100 out of 1,100 (100%), ranking first in Iraq and 23rd globally in this category. In the Education and Research category, the University ranked second in Iraq and 102nd globally, with a performance rate of 94.23%. It also ranked second in Iraq in the Waste Management category, achieving 82.35%. The University also recorded strong results in other categories, including Governance and Digitalization (85.23%), Transportation (84.56%), and Energy and Climate Change (83.75%), reflecting the comprehensive nature of its efforts to establish an integrated and sustainable university system. On this occasion, the President of Al-Mustaqbal University, Prof. Dr. Hassan Shakir Majdi, congratulated the University’s faculty members, staff, and students on this distinguished achievement, commending their efforts and contributions. He emphasized that this accomplishment is the result of collaborative institutional work, a strong team spirit, and the University’s commitment to continuing its journey toward excellence and sustainability. The University President further emphasized that this achievement serves as an incentive to continue developing and expanding sustainability initiatives, enhancing Al-Mustaqbal University’s standing, and strengthening its role as an Iraqi academic model that integrates education, innovation, sustainability, and social responsibility.
