Al-Mustaqbal University has achieved a new milestone in university sustainability, ranking first among Iraqi private universities and third among Iraqi public and private universities according to the results of the UI GreenMetric World University Rankings 2026. The achievement was announced in a publication issued today by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, adding a new accomplishment to the University’s growing record in sustainability and institutional excellence. The University achieved a total score of 8,475 out of 10,000, reflecting its continued commitment to embedding sustainability principles across academic, administrative, and environmental practices, while advancing the transition towards a smart and sustainable university environment in line with its vision of “Towards a Sustainable University.” Al-Mustaqbal University demonstrated outstanding performance across several ranking indicators. Most notably, the University achieved a full score in the Water category, receiving 1,100 out of 1,100 points, equivalent to 100%, ranking first in Iraq and 23rd globally in this category. In the Education and Research category, the University ranked second in Iraq and 102nd globally, with a performance rate of 94.23%. It also ranked second in Iraq in the Waste Management category, achieving a performance rate of 82.35%. The University also recorded advanced results in other categories, including Governance and Digitalization at 85.23%, Transportation at 84.56%, and Energy and Climate Change at 83.75%. These results reflect the comprehensive nature of the University’s efforts to establish an integrated and sustainable university system. On this occasion, the President of Al-Mustaqbal University, Professor Dr. Hassan Shakir Majdi, congratulated the University’s faculty members, staff, and students on this distinguished achievement. He praised their efforts and dedication, emphasizing that this accomplishment is the outcome of collective institutional work, teamwork, and the University’s commitment to continuing its journey towards excellence and sustainability. The University President further emphasized that this achievement represents an incentive to continue developing and expanding sustainability initiatives, strengthening Al-Mustaqbal University’s position, and consolidating its role as an Iraqi academic model that integrates education, innovation, sustainability, and social responsibility.
