Al-Mustaqbal University concluded the activities of a specialized training workshop on Erasmus+ programs and grants, organized by the Delegation of the European Union to Iraq in cooperation with the Department of International and Arab Organizations at the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. The workshop was attended by representatives of a number of public and private universities in the Middle Euphrates region, in the presence of the President of Al-Mustaqbal University, Prof. Dr. Hassan Shakir Majdi. The third and final day of the workshop featured a series of specialized training and discussion sessions addressing key aspects of Erasmus Mundus opportunities available to students and academic staff, along with application requirements and procedures. The sessions also explored mechanisms for building international academic partnerships and developing proposals for joint master’s programs, contributing to broader opportunities for international academic cooperation and the development of joint educational programs. The sessions further addressed the role of universities in introducing students to the opportunities offered by Erasmus+ and supporting them throughout the preparation of their applications. They also discussed the main challenges facing Iraqi universities in participating in European programs, along with practical steps to address these challenges and enhance institutional readiness to develop competitive projects and proposals. During his attendance at part of the workshop’s third-day activities, the President of Al-Mustaqbal University, Prof. Dr. Hassan Shakir Majdi, emphasized the importance of moving beyond introducing Erasmus+ programs toward effectively utilizing available opportunities to establish academic partnerships and develop implementable international projects. He also highlighted the need to benefit from the workshop outcomes in strengthening the institutional capacities of Iraqi universities and enhancing their participation in European academic and research cooperation programs. Held over three days, the workshop included specialized training sessions and discussions covering mechanisms for benefiting from Erasmus+ opportunities, developing institutional capacities, and preparing competitive international projects. The program also addressed International Credit Mobility (ICM) and student exchange opportunities, as well as the administrative and financial aspects of European projects, in addition to the mechanisms and requirements for applying for Jean Monnet grants. The hosting of this workshop by Al-Mustaqbal University reflects its commitment to supporting the internationalization of higher education and expanding international academic partnerships. It also seeks to enhance opportunities for students and academic staff to benefit from European Union programs, while supporting universities across the Middle Euphrates region in developing high-quality academic and research projects and proposals that contribute to advancing education and scientific research and strengthening the international presence of Iraqi higher education institutions.
