Social anxiety, also known as Social Anxiety Disorder, is a common anxiety disorder characterized by an intense and persistent fear of social situations in which a person may be evaluated or judged by others. This disorder can affect young people’s social, academic, and professional lives. Impact of Social Anxiety on Mental Health Social anxiety may lead to increased feelings of anxiety, fear, and embarrassment. It may also be associated with low self-confidence and avoidance of social situations. In severe cases, individuals may become socially isolated and withdraw from social activities, which can negatively affect their quality of life and relationships with others. Social Anxiety Disorder may also be associated with other mental health conditions, such as depression and other anxiety disorders. Therefore, early recognition of symptoms and seeking appropriate support are important. Ways to Manage Social Anxiety Symptoms of social anxiety can be reduced through psychological treatment, particularly Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), as well as developing communication skills and gradually facing anxiety-provoking situations. Support from family, friends, and educational environments can also play an important role in helping young people cope with this problem. Conclusion Social anxiety is a challenge that can affect the mental health and social interaction of young people. Awareness of its symptoms, early intervention, and appropriate psychological support can help reduce its impact and improve an individual’s ability to participate in social and academic life.
