The specialised training workshop on Erasmus+ programmes continued for its second day at Al Mustaqbal University. The workshop is organised by the Delegation of the European Union to Iraq in cooperation with the Department of International and Arab Organisations at the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, with the participation of representatives from a number of public and private universities in the Middle Euphrates region. The second day focused on the practical aspects of European Union programmes, helping participants move from learning about Erasmus+ opportunities to understanding how they can be utilised to develop academic and institutional projects that are feasible, responsive to universities’ needs, and capable of generating academic and community impact. At the opening of the second day, Professor Dr. Muzaffar Sadiq Al-Zuhairi, Director of Scientific and Academic Supervision at Al Mustaqbal University, delivered a speech on behalf of the University President, Professor Dr. Hassan Shakir Majdi. He emphasised the importance of making effective use of the workshop’s outcomes and translating the knowledge gained into high-quality initiatives and projects. He noted that the real value of international cooperation programmes lies in developing projects that address academic and institutional priorities and contribute to community service. The workshop sessions covered the International Credit Mobility (ICM) component, with particular focus on student exchange opportunities and their implementation mechanisms in accordance with approved academic regulations. This contributes to enhancing the benefits of international academic experiences within clear academic and institutional frameworks. The workshop also addressed several administrative and financial aspects related to European-funded projects, including procedures for managing funding and implementing projects within Iraqi higher education institutions. As part of the introduction to the Jean Monnet component of the Erasmus+ programme, the sessions explored the nature and objectives of these projects, as well as the requirements for preparing and submitting proposals. The experiences of Al Mustaqbal University and Al-Turath University in obtaining grants under this component were also highlighted as practical examples that can guide the development of future project proposals. The second day featured interactive discussions and contributions from representatives of participating universities, covering various technical, academic, and administrative aspects of the programme. Participants from Al Mustaqbal University also contributed discussions on registering higher education institutions on the European Union platform, strengthening their online presence, and designating university representatives for managing proposed projects through the platform. Hosting this workshop reflects Al Mustaqbal University’s commitment to strengthening its engagement in international academic cooperation programmes and building the capacities of its staff in developing and managing international projects, thereby creating opportunities for new academic partnerships and broader participation in European Union programmes.
