Al-Mustaqbal University has concluded the activities of a specialized training workshop on Erasmus+ programmes and grants, organized by the European Union Delegation in Iraq in cooperation with the Department of International and Arab Organizations at the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. The workshop brought together representatives from a number of public and private universities in the Middle Euphrates region and was attended by the President of Al-Mustaqbal University, Professor Dr. Hassan Shakir Majdi. The third and final day of the workshop featured specialized training and discussion sessions addressing Erasmus Mundus opportunities available to students and academics, along with application requirements and procedures. The sessions also explored mechanisms for establishing academic partnerships and developing proposals for joint master’s programmes, contributing to broader opportunities for international cooperation and the development of joint educational programmes. The sessions further highlighted the role of universities in introducing students and academics to the opportunities offered through Erasmus+ programmes and supporting them in preparing their applications. Discussions also addressed the key challenges facing Iraqi universities in participating in these programmes, while presenting practical steps to enhance institutional readiness for developing competitive international projects and proposals. During his attendance at part of the final-day sessions, the President of Al-Mustaqbal University, Professor Dr. Hassan Shakir Majdi, emphasized the importance of moving beyond introducing Erasmus+ programmes towards effectively utilizing the opportunities they provide to establish international partnerships and implementable projects. He also highlighted the importance of benefiting from the workshop outcomes to develop the institutional capacities of Iraqi universities and strengthen their participation in European academic and research cooperation programmes. Held over three days, the workshop addressed a range of specialized topics, including mechanisms for benefiting from Erasmus+ opportunities, institutional capacity building, the development of competitive international projects, International Credit Mobility (ICM) and student exchange programmes, as well as the administrative and financial aspects of European projects and application mechanisms for Jean Monnet grants. The hosting of this workshop by Al-Mustaqbal University reflects its commitment to supporting the internationalization of higher education and strengthening international academic partnerships. It also provides students and academics with opportunities to benefit from European Union programmes, while contributing to the capacity of universities in the Middle Euphrates region to develop high-quality academic and research projects and proposals that open broader horizons for international cooperation.
