University of Al-Mustaqbal Leads National Partnerships to Advance Climate Action and Environmental Sustainability

The President of the University of Al-Mustaqbal, Prof. Dr. Hassan Shakir Majid, received at the University Presidency the Director General of the Department of Environmental Protection and Improvement in the Middle Euphrates Region, Eng. Makki Hadi Imran Al-Shammari, accompanied by a representative of the Ministry of Environment and a representative of environmental organizations. The meeting focused on strengthening cooperation in environmental and climate-related fields and promoting the principles of sustainability. The meeting addressed prospects for cooperation between the academic institution, governmental, executive and regulatory bodies, and civil society organizations, with the aim of transforming scientific and research expertise into practical environmental initiatives and projects with tangible impact. Several key areas were discussed, most notably strengthening partnerships to address climate change by utilizing the scientific and research capabilities of the University of Al-Mustaqbal to develop practical and sustainable solutions that help mitigate environmental and climate-related impacts. The participants also discussed activating field-based and awareness-raising initiatives aimed at protecting the local environment and promoting a culture of sustainability. The meeting further explored mechanisms for supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, by fostering effective cooperation among academic institutions, government bodies, environmental organizations, and community stakeholders. Prof. Dr. Hassan Shakir Majid reaffirmed the University of Al-Mustaqbal’s commitment to continuing its engagement with national initiatives and partnerships that contribute to environmental protection and climate change adaptation. He emphasized the importance of uniting expertise and efforts to build a more sustainable future.
